Audio Cultures – Breaking The Sound Barrier

Audio Cultures – Breaking The Sound Barrier

by Brent-Anthony Johnson

I admit to not caring much for what has become known as “smooth jazz” – as, in my opinion, its usually a bit too smooth and never jazzy enough. But, that’s me. Audio Cultures disc, though considered a “smooth” release has enough of the true musicianship my ear craves, and bassist Albert Hobson kills every groove on this disc! There’s real music here, folks! This is an expertly played release and all the musicians featured here should be here! It sounds like the players were having a really good time vibing off one another, and digging the music they’re playing! This is a great disc to put on to just listen to! Whatta concept…

Frankly, I could listen to Albert all day. His only real break on the disc happens at about 3:28 into Beautiful People, and its very cool. Check him out on The Method for an example of taste and putting a great lick right into the pocket! Yeah, this is a keeper.

  1. Great review of a wonderful disc! Besides the phenomenal musicianship, I was also extremely impressed by the production quality and the song writing.
