Bass In Your Face & Mother Father Preacher Teacher – Quintin Berry
Review By Brent-Anthony Johnson
Quintin hits several high notes on his 2008 release! Although a “bass CD,” there are several great tunes along with the killin’ grooves, and a heap of unexpected, well-played bass tones! On Bass In Your Face “Q” spaces the tunes very consciously for maximum marketability – nicely folding ballads into the groove mix! Following the beautifully written “Beautiful Tears” with the sweaty funk of “Pluck It” couldn’t have been better planned! Nicely played, man! Also, there are great solos on several of the tunes, and he never loses the deep groove.
Mother, Father, Preacher, Teacher focuses on sheer groovability and it made me dance a couple times! Q also features a couple wonderful cover tunes in Sly Stone’s “Runnin’ Away,” Tupac and Dre’s “California Love,” and (my personal favorite) Al Green’s “Love And Happiness.” You can find Mother, Father, Preacher, Teacher on iTunes.
All things considered, both Bass In Your Face and Mother Father Preacher Teacher are a pair of musts for dancing people everywhere… oh yeah, and the bass community will dig them, too! Q’s technique and abilities are completely dangerous! Must hear cut, “My Hands Hurt” / “Hold It Down” / “Love And Happiness.”
