Masters Of Their Domain.

The first time I saw the movie Slingblade I felt it was among the best I had ever seen; it really moved me. It could have been the wonderful screenplay, the amazing cast, or any number of things, but I could relate to it in so many meaningful ways.

Growing up in western North Carolina, I understood the complete dialect, and I could identify with every single detail. Little did I know at that time that I was later to become friends with Billy Bob Thornton: I met him on a music video shoot that he directed for pop/rock music artist Jeffrey Skye Moore.

As it turned out Billy Bob is a genuine Southern man who I connected with on many levels. I knew he was a big fan of great music and that he played the drums, but had no idea of the vast knowledge he had of Country music and popular music as a whole. This man is a walking, talking encyclopedia of recording artists, songs, and the complete history of where it all came from.

Billy Bob is a no-B.S. guy when it comes to the integrity of his music. It is real and you can feel it – if you don’t then you may be already dead, or maybe just emotionally challenged… It is easy to see that Billy’s music comes straight from the heart, is well written, and performed with passion and fire. You might be able to envision, the director and actor that he is and as successful as he has been in that field, the detail that goes into that aspect of his career… Then you would know that Billy leaves nothing to chance in his music, done with a great deal of pride and care.

I have grown to really cherish my friendship with Billy and the Boxmasters. The following interview was conducted in a beer joint (that’s what we call them in the south) in Birmingham, Alabama, a few hours before the Boxmasters took the stage and proceeded to kick the livin’ sh!t out of the place! (Sorry about the cussin’, Mom…)
