The Peavey Headliner, a new rack-mountable bass amplifier head with matching enclosures in the Peavey Tour Series, packs huge power and innovative tone features in a lightweight 10 lb. package.

The Peavey Headliner is a 600-watt max bass amplifier head that puts an incredible range of features at players’ fingertips. The amp features a seven-band graphic EQ spaced at optimized frequencies, with each slider providing 15 dB of cut and boost, to provide comprehensive tone shaping at precise frequency bands. Players can use the graphic EQ in conjunction with the low and high shelving-type tone controls, or bypass the graphic EQ entirely.

A built-in optical Compressor with level control and bypass allows players to add the right amount of compression to the mix, while the Crunch feature adds a vintage tube effect that distorts only the high frequencies, preserving the all-important fat low end. The amp also features Bright and Contour switches, effects loop, master volume and headphone out. The Compressor and Crunch features are footswitch selectable.

The Headliner features a built-in XLR direct interface that routes the signal to a house sound system or recording device, and an active/passive pickup switch that compensates for hot inputs. Peavey’s exclusive DDT™ speaker protection circuitry senses the onset of clipping and responds with slight compression that allows the amp to retain the tone, headroom and dynamics (bypass included).

Designed to match the Headliner amplifier, the new Peavey Headliner 410, Headliner 210, and Headliner 115 bass enclosures are made with premium loudspeakers and components for superior tone and reliability.

The Peavey Headliner bass amplifier and enclosures are available now from authorized Peavey retailers. Please visit www.peavey.com/dealerlocator to find the dealer nearest you.

CruzTOOLS announced their new GrooveTechTM Truss Rod Drivers for vintage-style truss rod nuts on guitars and basses.

Early Fender guitars and basses use a “cross screw” nut for truss rod adjustment, which has two slots arranged in a cross pattern. Cross screw fasteners achieved popularity during the early 20th century because a second slot was provided if the first became damaged. Early Fender designers may have seen this as beneficial, especially since modern hex drive nuts weren’t yet available. In addition to older instruments, many vintage reproduction guitars and basses make use of cross screw nuts.
<img src="http://www.bassfrontiersmag.com/wp-content/uploads/GTTR-Drivers.jpg" alt="" title="GTTR Drivers" width=326" class="alignright size-full wp-image-2322" />
Adjustment of cross screw nuts presents several problems. Nuts are made of unhardened steel with very narrow slots, so standard screwdrivers don’t fit properly. An 1/8” (3mm) wide blade might have the only tip thin enough to fit into the slot, yet slots are 3/8” (9mm) wide. Thus, only a portion of the slot is contacted with damage likely after several uses.

Since only half of the nut is typically exposed, proper adjustment requires neck removal. Achieving correct neck relief (curvature) may take several attempts, resulting in a tedious process. Musicians are therefore tempted to adjust without removing the neck. Truss rod tension is relatively high, so the amount of resistance during adjustment may be considerable. These high torque demands combined with poor slot contact on unhardened steel can easily chew up nuts, which is clearly evident on many vintage instruments.

Recognizing these problems, CruzTOOLS developed two new screwdrivers for adjustment of vintage- style truss rod nuts. Both employ a special tip profile that allows firm fit into cross screw nut slots. Oversized handles provide a confident grip, and long shafts ensure easy access to the nut. Tips are manufactured to precision tolerances using heat-treated chrome vanadium alloy for high strength.

Despite the extra effort, necks with cross screw nuts should generally be removed for adjustment. The GrooveTechTM Standard Truss Rod Driver has a 9mm wide tip that will contact the entire nut slot for quick and damage-free adjustment. The Standard Driver should be a tool box staple for any technician or musician with cross screw equipped instruments.

For those who prefer making minor adjustments without neck removal, CruzTOOLS developed the GrooveTechTM Cheater DriverTM. Its 4mm wide tip is designed for a secure fit into the slot, and operation is aided by a large handle with extra-long shaft. Successful adjustment requires a nut in good working condition and following recommendations provided by CruzTOOLS.

Suggested retail for each screwdriver is $14.95.

CruzTOOLS provides highly functional tools and tool kits to the motorcycle and music product industries, which are sold through dealers and distributors internationally. For more information, please contact CruzTOOLS at PO Box 250, Standard, CA 95373 U.S.A.; toll-free 888-909-8665; fax 209-536- 0463; or visit their web site at www.cruztools.com.

With Summer NAMM rapidly approaching Overtōn is pleased to announce they will be debuting the much anticipated Flyweight 200 bass amp head, as well as three new cabinets this July in Nashville at booth #1610.

The Flyweight 200 is the newest addition to Overtōn’s Featherweight series of amplifiers. Weighing in at a svelte 2.1 pounds, the Flyweight is packed with an unmatched feature set in the sub-compact category. The Flyweight’s front end features an ultra-smooth auto compressor, Overtōn’s signature sculpt control and a three band active equalizer in addition to the requisite gain and master volume controls. Overtōn’s now familiar pushbutton knobs allow you to access the Flyweight’s mute, compressor bypass and sculpt bypass functionality all of which are accompanied by high visibility blue LED indicators. The rear panel sports a balanced direct out, with an independent level control and ground lift, FX loop, pre-mute tuner out and stereo Aux. input. Connecting to your cabinet of choice is a breeze with the pair of speak-on – 1/4” combo jacks that come standard.

Overtōn’s family of cabinets is welcoming some new additions at Summer NAMM as well. In the OB series, Overtōn has added the OB-110 compact cabinet to the line as a perfect mate for the Flyweight 200. With 250W RMS of power handling, a lean tuned port design and specially voiced Undertōn-250 loudspeaker the OB-110 and Flyweight 200 pair up as the most dynamic rig available with their form factor.

Continuing the Overtōn tradition of high fidelity, lightweight and powerful offerings the OBN series of neodymium driven cabinets will also be making their debut in
Nashville. The OBN-210 and OBN-410 are both loaded with Overtōn’s new Neotōn drivers. Overtōn’s engineers went to great lengths to raise the bar on neo powered cabinets with this exciting new speaker design. The OBN-210 at 500W RMS and the OBN-410 at 1000W RMS both feature Overtōn’s proprietary compression tweeter and 2-way crossover with L-pad attenuation. Ruggedly braced construction and a compact tuned port design make these a durable and potent backline addition.

Overtōn will be hosting a press conference at their booth, #1610, on Friday July, 22 at 1:30pm. There the product manager will be demonstrating the new gear releases as well as answering questions about the entire Overtōn line.

About Overtōn – Overtōn provides players with innovative, exciting and affordable alternatives to the existing amplifier market. Their US engineering team works tirelessly to set the tonal standard for lightweight gear. That team in conjunction with their state of the art factory in China allow Overtōn to fully realize their design vision.

SKB Corporation follows up last January’s introduction of the first INJECTION molded guitar cases with new watertight electric bass cases. Two models are available: the
3i-5014-44 with an interior silhouette for P/J style bodies and the 3i-5014-OP with an open cavity design accommodating a variety of body shapes.

The 3i-5014-44 and 3i-5014-OP Injection Molded Watertight Bass cases are constructed of ultra high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin. The case shells are designed and manufactured to US Military specification standards (MIL-STD) for tactical applications. The molded unibody is a waterproof, airtight and submersible design (IP67) that is resistant to corrosion and impact damage. The interior features plush lined EPS foam for proper support of the bass and a large accessory compartment as well. The case includes four (4) SKB patented trigger latches (two with built-in TSA locks), four reinforced padlock locations, snap-down rubber over-molded cushion grip handles on three (3) sides, recessed in-line skate wheels and an automatic ambient pressure equalization valve (MIL-STD-648C).

Weight is a big issue for flight cases. Traditional flight cases can exceed the 50 lbs. weight limit for checked baggage, even without a bass in the case! The design of the 3I-5014 Injection Molded case eliminates the need for excessive metal reinforcing hardware found on traditional flight cases, thus the weight of the 3i-5014 case empty is less than 22 lbs.

Not only does the case provide the ultimate in bass protection and convenience it is backed by SKB’s unsurpassed no-fault Million Mile Guaranty™ (Lifetime Warranty). The 3i-5014-44 and 3i-5014-OP Injection Molded Watertight Bass Cases are available from authorized SKB dealers with an estimated street price of $279.99 US.

Since opening its doors in 2008, Germano Studios in New York City has hosted sessions for the who’s who of recording artists. In the studio´s short history, top artists such as Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears, Rihanna, and T-Pain have all called Germano home. This should come as no surprise, as Germano Studios was founded by Troy Germano, former CEO/Owner of the famed Hit Factory. It should also come as no surprise that top Staff Engineer Kevin Porter — whose recent clients include Adele, OneRepublic, Snoop Dogg, Beyoncé, Ne-Yo, Cirque du Soleil (Michael Jackson), Leona Lewis, Kylie Minogue, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, Kid Cudi, and T.I. — chooses to incorporate Focusrite into his recording and mix sessions.

Porter states, “Germano Studios is the next step in a logical progression of what a major recording studio should be. From writing and production to recording and mixing, we can easily accommodate any and every phase of the record making process. We’re constantly updating and upgrading our facility with new gear and software, to not only reflect industry trends, but also stay one step ahead of them. We aim to marry the very best in analog and digital technology, and Focusrite strikes a balance between warmth and clarity, character and transparency. Focusrite products, above all else, sound great. This is our number one requirement when we research and spec out new purchases. The ISA One, for example, is a well-built and versatile channel strip that offers a mic pre true to the classic ISA sound.”

Phil Wagner, Focusrite Novation Inc. President adds, “Germano Studios is one of the latest and greatest studios in New York City. We’re pleased to see that the studio, now in it’s fourth year, is using Focusrite mic preamps for their prestigious clients.”

Kala Solid Body U-Bass Is Born In The USA

Kala Brand Music Co. delivers more bass with less space with the introduction of the revolutionary Solid Body U-Bass. The solid body design is the next step in the evolution of Kala’s line of 21 inch scale bass instruments equipped with Kala’s proprietary polyurethane strings that are noted for their incredible bottom end. The new basses are being manufactured in California and assembled in Kala’s custom shop. Kala Solid Body U-Basses are available in four and five string models, and with the option of a fretted or fretless fingerboard. There are four color options that include Translucent Satin Black, Skyline Red, Espresso, and Natural Ash.

Kala Solid Body Ubass

Other specifications include Custom Hipshot Tuners, Mi Si Align Active Preamp system with battery free technology, volume control and 2 band EQ and a Graph Tech Black TUSQ nut. A deluxe logo gig bag with plush padding and hidden backpack straps is included with each bass. Kala U-Basses meet all airline carry on size requirements.

“The Kala Solid Body U-Bass is a true innovation in the world of bass”, according to Hutch Hutchinson, longtime bassist for Bonnie Raitt.”They are really fun to play, sound great live or in the studio, and are extremely portable.”

Kala introduced the original U-Bass design in 2009. Since then it has found its way into studios and live performance in the hands of many notable artists that include Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon), Ira Coleman (Sting), Jim Mayer (Jimmy Buffett), and Reggie McBride (Keb Mo). It has also been featured in the popularTV series, “Glee.”

At the NAMM Show 2011, TC Electronic had a host of stars sign a custom pedal effects board containing all its new TonePrint and drive pedals. Now, it’s up for grabs for one lucky Facebook friend.

TC Electronic presented 7 new guitar pedals at NAMM this year. A new feature called TonePrint introduced an impressive and very concrete link to true rock stars by allowing users to load custom-tweaked settings by some of the best guitarists to their own TonePrint enabled pedals.

All the great guitar and bass players that performed at the TC Electronic NAMM booth signed a special, one-off pedal board holding all of these new pedals – e.g. Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal (Guns N’ Roses), Orianthi (Michael Jackson), Guthrie Govan, Uriah Duffy (Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Whitesnake), Chris Minh Doky (Mike Stern), Zoltan Bathory and Jason Hook (Five Finger Death Punch), just to name a few!

Now, this unique pedal board will be given to one of TC Electronic’s friends on Facebook. The competition runs from March 15 to April 6 where a winner will be picked. Anyone who ‘Likes’ TC Electronic on Facebook will be in the drawing for this cool board regardless of when they became friends with TC Electronic.
