Editor’s Notes – November 2008
By admin on Nov 1, 2008 in Editor's Notes
Working from a cafe in Los Angeles as I prepare my Editors Notes, I’m filled with eagerness to share so many things with you, our readers… I hardly know where to start! This is a very exciting time for the staff of Bass Frontiers: we have some fantastic stories to share with you (The Eagles, Rickey Minor, Lee Sklar – just to name a few) in the coming months.
I have been a fan of Rhonda Smith from the moment I first heard her play. Not only is she a fantastic and gifted musician, composer, and producer, but she is such a sweet human being…you can’t help but fall in love with the person she is!

She very graciously accepted our invitation to attend summer NAMM in Nashville this year on behalf of Bass Frontiers. We were thrilled to have her represent us, which she did so very well (Thank you, Rhonda)! We are honored to feature her on our November cover, and we are sure you will enjoy her story.
I have noticed in networking the BASS FRONTIERS Myspace page that there seem to be more female bassists than ever before – I love this trend!
One of the many things we are excited about is having Ed Friedland on board with us. For those of you who may not know Ed, he is a brilliant music education specialist who taught at the Berklee school of music, and we are honored to have him with us as Education Editor of Bass Frontiers Magazine!
Our intent is to keep you coming back to the Bass Frontiers site, and we feel our job is to bring you the latest and greatest in bass gear, lessons, music education, health-related issues, product information, along with cool CD reviews. Let me add that while we hope to share cutting edge music with you, we are not trying to keep up with just the latest thing (flavor of the month, if you will) from major labels, yet we will strive to bring you quality music NO MATTER WHAT LABEL IT IS, or where it comes from. For us at Bass Frontiers good music is simply good music!
I have to give it up for our Managing Editor Kirk Eberhard – what a blessing he has been to this magazine. His tireless work and energy have kept this together while I have been holding down my road gig with Dolly Parton. Kirk, we thank you HUGE!
My brother Jonathan and I also owe one more debt of gratitude to our partner Gene Fox. Without him none of this would have been possible. So Gene, thank you my friend.
We pride ourselves on employing guys & gals here at Bass Frontiers who are working bass players. They have carried their own gear, tuned their own basses, changed their own strings, etc. – all for the love of it. That is what we wish to share with you. The passion, I suppose is what I’m trying to say. Without passion our enterprise is futile.
I have been in love with the bass since I was a kid, and I still have it strongly in my heart to carry the torch till God says I just can’t anymore. This magazine is all about reaching out to the elite professional in order to promote their music as well as reaching the kid who just bought his first bass guitar. Our intentions are to inform you to the absolute best of our ability. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about anything concerning bass, and we will do our best to give you answers. And if we don’t have the answers we’ll get them.
We thank you for visiting our site, and hope to have you back as often as you wish to log in and hang with us. I wish the very best to all of you, and if we can ever do anything at all to help you we are here for you. We appreciate the opportunity to serve bass players from around the globe, and we do not take this responsibility lightly.
‘Til next time, Godspeed to you all – see you soon!
