May 2013: Dave Fowler

editor1Hello, Bass Frontiers readers!

We are slowly but surely coming out of a cold winter and into the warmth of a spring and summer here in Nashville which will bring many tourists and playing opportunities out the wazoo around here. In the words of the great philosopher Sheryl Crow, a little change would do you good. Sometimes we need to think outside our comfort zones and get out in the world and do something with our God-given talents. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to soul search and take responsibility for your career and life and seek out opportunities to better yourself.

This is not easily done.

It will come with a lot of personal sacrifice and probably some pain, but we are capable human beings! I know for myself that I really need to get back in the gym. At the same time, I need more practice time on the bass! This will not be easy for me with a 2-year-old son, being a husband, being a business owner, and much more.

I recently booked a show (the first ever, mind you) under my own name, playing my original music. I know that if I didn’t just book it that I would continue to procrastinate and probably never get out playing this music that I spent years writing. So, being forced out of my comfort zone has resulted in having gotten to play some really fun music here in Nashville. That’s how most of us work…if you book the show, then you HAVE to do it. I need help being ousted from my comfy perch!

As always, we at Bass Frontiers care about each of you and if we can help you in any way, please reach out to any of our staff members. If we don’t know the answer, we know where to go and get one for you!

‘Til next time, blessings to all!

Dave Fowler
