Review: Al Garcia – Alternate Realties

If alternate realites are anything like this release from Al Garica, they are all smooth flowing with precision craftsmanship of articulate and beautiful musicianship. While listening to the CD, I couldn’t resist the thought of turning on the TV with the volume down, and using the music as a soundtrack for whatever was on at the time.

The tunes on Alternate Realites meld into each other with such grace, even though the boundaries are quite clear between each song. Al covers practically on the instruments on this release from guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, percussion and guitar synth. Dean Rohan and Chris Garcia are also on drums, as is Fred Ramirez on piano for “Secret Correspondences”.

The entire cd is a mix of jazz fusion that leaves you wanting more from Al Garcia. Traces of Allan Holdsworth and John McLaughlin are apparent and Alternate Realites is well worth a listen no matter what genre of music you are into. Al Garcia’s Alternate Realities is available on iTunes and from Amazon.
