Review: The Bass Bible
The Bass Bible
Mel Bay Publications
Review by Brent-Anthony Johnson
Okay… I’m just going to say it:
“Weighing in at 285 pages of the most important theory, practical, technical, and musical information of any bass book I’ve ever known… the Bass Bible is THE single, coolest instructional/educational book I have ever owned! I LOVE THIS BOOK!”
There. I said it.
The Bass Bible
Get this book, folks! When I say that this is the ultimate study for the bass guitarist or the acoustic contrabassist I truly mean it. In this book the reader will learn music theory, practical approach to learning musical styles, basic improvisation techniques, riffs, rhythm, and the concept of groove. This should be the first stop of any serious bass student as they collect information that will help them build and maintain a functional vocabulary of what it means to play “the bass”!
Yes, it includes tablature, and the included 1000 musical example CD is also a great tool! More than that… this book has virtually something for every bassist I’ve introduced the book to – over the past few years! UK-based bassist/author Paul Westwood knocked this one out of the park, folks! Really.
