The Best of Jack Bruce
Review by Brent-Anthony Johnson
Okay… Most of you know “who” Jack Bruce is and many of you may have followed his illustrious career from Graham Bond, Manfred Mann, and John Mayall before forming Cream (with Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton) in the late 1960’s. At the time the tunes included in this book were written and being performed, Jack Bruce was most certainly the most visible bassist in the world!
Since “The Creams” disbanded – almost as soon as it had started in earnest – Bruce has released dozens of albums, both under his own name and as a member of various super-groups. In May 2005 the music world was blessed to see Bruce’s several years of declining health halt, as well as the reuniting of Cream, and the largely European tours received incredibly well by thrilled, both old and new, fans!
So, here we are – more than 40 years after the release of many of these tunes, and all of the music Bruce released with Cream – to review this incredibly FUN book of 13 songs from his agile career. The selections from his Cream repertoire include favorites “I’m So Glad”, “Politician”, “White Room”, and “Sunshine Of Your Love”.
I have to admit, I had a blast playing through these songs and remembering how deeply I’ve been influenced by this player who helped invent what it means to be a bona fide “rock star”! This book is a must for Cream fans!
