Vail Johnson

On August 26, we had the pleasure of hosting a Bass Luncheon for Vail Johnson, best known as the 20+ year bassist for saxophonist Kenny G. Vail is a fantastic player whose rhythm, melody, and overall musical consciousness is apparent within the first couple of beats of his playing.

We had all been absolutely wowed by Vail’s playing on his new record, “Come Together”, for a while. So, it was a great pleasure to get to sit and chat with him and pick his brain a bit. Not only can he play, but he’s a great guy to be with to boot.

Vail was nice enough to come hang with us to record a video interview in which you can instantly hear the soul and funk he’s got. He also chats about growing up, picking what instrument to play, his major influences, and describes the genesis and development of his new CD. You don’t want to miss out on this!
