Video Feature: Wooten Woods with Victor Wooten

Since the first bar of the first song on the first Béla Fleck & The Flecktones album, “The Sinister Minister”…wait, scratch that…the PICKUP NOTES to the first bar of the song, Victor Wooten has been the envy of bass players the world over in a way that hadn’t been felt since Jaco Pastorius’ debut album arrived in 1976. What is even more amazing is that he is loved, respected, and imitated by musicians across the instrumental spectrum, as well.

While Victor Wooten’s contributions to music will be felt forever, it is perhaps equalled by his dedication to sharing his pathways with others. No less than 5 instructional DVDs bear his name, and a best-selling narrative book entitled The Music Lesson (now a ridiculously good audiobook, as well). Victor is 100% committed to giving it all back, and that is what set the stage as we visited him at the Wooten Woods facility during a Bass/Nature Camp Jam Weekend.

Great “interview”. My two favorite Bass Players are My son and Victor Wooten. I have loved Victor;s amazing talent for many years ever since the first time I had the good fortune of attending a Bela Fleck concert. It’s great to hear Victor describing his camp. Great work man.

That sounds fascinating and great, Victor. Very good luck to you and all that attend. I like the philosophy of non political, non religious…just music…that can cross many bridges. Taking such ideology from thought to reality can be tough; very best wishes in your quest.

Fabulous bass playing by the way!

I recently attended a clinic held at the Atlanta Bass Gallery featuring Anthony Wellington of the Victor Wooten Group. Anthony is a gifted teacher and world class musician. What Victor and his teachers are doing is a great learning experience for any aspiring Bassist.
